3D QR Code Generator for 3D Printing
Turn a link or text into a 3D print QR code: raised squares on a base plate, sized in millimetres. Download a binary STL for your slicer. Every file is checked before you download it.

How to 3D print a QR code
- Pick a size. Each square of the code (a "module") should be at least about 1.2 mm wide on a printer with a 0.4 mm nozzle (a rule of thumb, not a hard limit). Longer text means more, smaller modules, so keep links short.
- Download the STL and open it in your slicer (PrusaSlicer, Bambu Studio, Cura, OrcaSlicer). It's in millimetres, flat side down.
- Use two colours. The camera needs dark squares on a light plate. Print the base in white or another light colour, then change to black filament at the height shown above (the top of the base). Most slicers call this a "colour change" or "filament change" at a layer.
- Multi-material printers (AMS, MMU): download "Base only" and "Raised squares only", load both into one project as parts of one object, and give each part its own filament.
- Test it with a phone before you print more. Matte filament may scan more easily than silk or glossy filament, which can reflect light.
What the checks mean
Before download, the page reads the STL back from the file bytes. It counts the triangles and checks that the mesh is closed (every edge is shared by matching faces, so slicers see a solid). It compares the volume with the expected plate plus squares. Then it draws the top of the model as a camera would see it in two colours and decodes it with a QR decoder (jsQR). "Read back" means that drawing decoded to your text. The printed result still depends on your printer, filament and lighting.
FAQ
Can you 3D print a QR code?
Yes. Print a light base plate with the dark modules raised on top, in a contrasting colour. A single-colour print usually doesn't scan, because the camera sees only small shadows instead of dark and light squares. Use a filament change at the top of the base, or a multi-material printer.
How small can a 3D printed QR code be?
It depends on how many modules the code has. Short links make version 1–3 codes (21–29 modules wide). With a 2-module border and modules of about 1.2 mm, that's a plate of roughly 30–40 mm. The tool shows the module size as you change the plate width, and warns you when the modules get too small.
Which file format do I need?
STL works in every common slicer, so that's what this tool makes (binary STL, in millimetres). For multi-colour printers, download the base and the raised squares as two STL files and combine them in your slicer.
Will a 3D printed QR code stop working?
Not because of the code. The text or link is stored in the pattern itself, with no redirect through any server. If you encode a web link, the code works for as long as that website does.
Should the squares be raised or sunk into the plate?
This tool raises the dark squares, which is the easiest to print in two colours with one filament change. Raised squares of 0.6–1 mm are plenty; taller squares cast more shadow when the code is scanned at an angle.
Can I 3D print a QR code for Wi-Fi?
Yes, if the code holds your network details in the Wi-Fi text format documented by the open-source ZXing barcode project, for example WIFI:T:WPA;S:mynetwork;P:mypass;; (T is the security type, S the network name, P the password). This tool has no Wi-Fi form: it encodes exactly the link or text you type, so you would type that line yourself. Put a backslash before any \ ; , " : in the name or password. The read-back check confirms the text, not that a phone joins the network, so test with a phone before printing. Anyone who scans the print can read the password.
How do I turn a QR code into a 3D model?
Type the link or text the code should hold, set the plate width, border, base and raised height in millimetres, and download the STL. The tool builds the model from your text; it can't import a picture of an existing QR code. If you only have the image, scan it with your phone, copy the link it shows, and paste that here.
